From the encounter between Fabio Lepore, one of the most internationally appreciated Italian jazz singers, and Salvatore Russo, a well-known gypsy jazz guitarist, comes 'Fragile', a mix of gypsy jazz and Italian and international melody. The album features vocal pieces from different origins (French, Italian and Spanish songs, film soundtracks, up to classical music rearranged with vocal scat), in which the virtuosity of the voice marries the originality of the gypsy jazz arrangements: two guitars (in addition to Russo's lead guitar, Tony Miolla's rhythm guitar) and Camillo Pace's double bass, for a musical genre, also known as jazz manouche, that has its soul in string instruments. Founded by the legendary guitarist Django Reinhardt, the musical father of the lead guitar, jazz manouche combines the French waltz tradition with Duke Ellington's American swing and gypsy culture, in a musical interpretation that has a strong rhythmic and melodic component as its main feature. The album opens with 'Ménilmontant', a classic of French music re-proposed with an unpublished text in Italian; It then moves on to Astor Piazzolla's famous tango 'Oblivion', and then alternates between various Italian classics such as 'Amarcord' by Nino Rota and 'Donna', recorded for the first time by the Cetra Quartet, and English songs such as 'Fragile' by Sting, 'The Windmills of Your Mind', a jazz standard by the great Michael Legrand, the swing of 'Mr Sandman' sung by several voices, and the timeless 'Stardust' by Hoagy Carmichael; in the middle of the tracklist, the Cuban tradition of 'Historia de un amor', and finally in the closing 'Capriccio no. 24' by Niccolò Paganini performed in a mix of classical music, jazz and vocal scat. A disc that, by enhancing the sonorities and technique of the guitar and voice, is capable of overwhelming audiences of all ages and cultures with its notes.
