Alessandra Gelfini publishes with Prelude this elaboration of George Gershwin's "An American in Paris" for piano 4 hands, which is sure to arouse much interest among pianists.
The idea of elaborating An American in Paris by George Gershwin arose first and foremost from concert requirements: after a long search, no version of Gershwin's masterpiece for four-hand piano duet was available. The main aim of the adaptation was to maintain the composer's unmistakable style, humour, rhythm and symphonic breath, rich and light at the same time, in a version that exploits the enormous expressive and virtuoso possibilities offered by the presence of the two players on the keyboard. Conceived as a concert piece, a number of changes have been made, consisting of cuts in the transitional sections, the insertion of ex-novo connecting parts, and the reworking of the symphonic material in a creative manner, in order to recreate and translate complex orchestral situations on the keyboard, as well as to give the piece a strongly pianistic flavour.
