Paolo Cherici completed his musical studies at the Milan Conservatory where he graduated in guitar with top marks and honours under the guidance of Ruggero Chiesa. He then attended lute courses held by Eugen M. Dombois and Hopkinson Smith at the Schola Cantorum in Basel.
He performs concerts in Italy and abroad (Europe, United States, Canada, Central America, Brazil, Japan) both in ensembles and as a soloist, participating in important festivals and ancient music events (St. Maurice, Paris, Versailles, Vienna, Bruges, Salzburg, Innsbruck, Montreux etc.). He has made more than 80 recordings in various formations with a repertoire ranging from the Renaissance to the Baroque. Particularly significant are the recordings he has made as a soloist and in duo with the soprano Claudine Ansermet, which have received the highest praise from international critics. In particular, the disc Soupirs Meslés d'Amour, court arias by Pierre Guédron, was awarded the prestigious Diapason d'Or du Siecle.
He has collaborated with important symphonic and opera companies. He has edited several publications for the publishing houses Preluio, Suvini Zerboni, Rugginenti and Musedita, among which those dedicated to Bach's works are particularly significant. He regularly holds advanced courses on lute performance practice. He teaches at the Conservatory of Milan.
