Luigi Benincasa

Luigi Benincasa graduated with full marks in Composition at the Conservatory 'S. Giacomantonio' in Cosenzas under the guidance of Maestro Vincenzo Palermo and obtained a diploma in piano with Maestro Antonella Calvelli. He also graduated with honours in music didactics, supervisor of his thesis M° Vito Palumbo. During his training, he attended courses in vocal technique, Gregorian chant, organ and conducting, and also courses on new technologies, especially in the field of audio recording and filming. He prepares and supervises the musical activities of various ensembles, polyphonic choirs and orchestras. He is intensively active as a pianist, choir and orchestra conductor. His compositions have received critical acclaim and important prizes from national and international competition organisers, (winner at the Foggia Film Festival 2008, Concorso Nazionale "A naca d'oru" Calabria 2009, special mention at Ephizefiri in Reggio Calabria 2010, at the Eboli International Composition Competition for two consecutive editions 2013, 2014, at the National Competition III Mnemosyne in Cosenza 2012, at the International Harp Composition Competition in Sicily 2015, at the 13th International Young Musicians Competition in the city of Paola).

His works have been included and performed in important events held at: Abbazia Florense San Giovanni in Fiore, Castello di S. Severina Crotone, Conservatorio "S. Giacomantonio", Auditorium Casa Della Musica, Teatro dell'Università della Calabria, Festival delle Serre in Cerisano, , Foggia Film Festival, Guitar Festival in Eboli, Concerti Estivi Viggiano, Basilica Superiore "S. Francesco d'Assisi', 'S. Giovanni Rotondo' Sanctuary, 'S. Antonio' Basilica in Padua, Filarmonica Laudamo in Messina, Teatro dell'Aquila in Fermo, Madinat Theatre in Dubai UAE, Szèchenyi Egyetem University Concert Hall in Gyor Hungary. His compositions have been performed by the Orchestra Italiana di Arpe, with which he also collaborates as conductor, the Orchestra di Sassofoni, the Orchestra Sinfonica del Conservatorio 'S. Giacomantonio' conductor Donato Sivo, the 'Naples Orchestra' conductor Michelangelo Galeati. In the field of chamber music, he has composed music for solo instruments and for various ensembles. Interpreters of his music have been: Domenico Ascione, Sabrina Cenerazzo, Stefano Cinnirella, Annalisa De Simone, Giuseppe Del Plato and Angelo Ruggero, Giovanni De Luca, Paolo Trampetti, Albarosa Di Lieto, Rosaria Belmonte, Emanuela De Zarlo, Laura Parrella, Mattia Madeo, Domenico Scicchitano, Alessandra Ciniglia, Paolo Montefusco, Ilaria Ganeri, Antonella Calvelli, Samuele Danese, Valeria Carnicelli, his works have been performed by the voices of Zeina Barhoum, Angela Bianco, Sabrina Zumpano, Francesca Donato, Roberto Nadiani. He has composed multiple pieces for mixed a cappella choir and for concertante choir. Many of his works have been performed at important choral festivals and included in concerts by various polyphonic choirs. In the field of vocal music, he composed the one-act chamber opera 'La daga d'argento' on a subject by Vincenzo Palermo inspired by a short story by J.L.Borges, presented at the Auditorium of the Conservatory of Cosenza. As part of the Ninth Gioachimita Congress, he was commissioned to write the work in music "L'annuncio è una scintilla" on a poetic text by H.E. Monsignor Antonio Stagliano, for two soloists, choir and symphony orchestra, inspired by the life of Gioacchino da Fiore, exegete and founder of the Florense Order.

He collaborates with various associations and bodies promoting musical culture, including the 'Anemos', 'Giovani Musicisti Nuova Paideia', 'Cornelio Pelusio' and 'Siberene' associations. He is the founder of the 'S. Pio' Polyphonic Choir and the 'In Fiore' Orchestra, with which he carries out intense concert activities. His compositions have been presented and disseminated through newspapers, radio and television networks including RAI. Some of his compositions are published by the Preludio and Pubblisfera Edizioni publishing houses.

He teaches Theory Analysis and Composition at the Liceo Musicale di Crotone.
