Blue Penguin

The BLUE PENGUIN were formed in 1998 by the coming together of singers and musicians from different backgrounds, mainly from the choral and musical fields.

The line-up is nine mixed voices: four male and five female. All songs are performed a cappella, without the aid of musical aids, reproducing with voices alone the sounds of the instruments, including the rhythmic base of bass and drums.

The style is inspired by the a cappella singing of the Anglo-American school (Swingle Singers, Real Group, Manhattan Transfer, Rockapella, Take 6) rather than the choral music typical of large ensembles.

The repertoire is very varied, encompassing classic genres such as jazz and swing, through to modern pop-rock, 70s-80s disco-dance, South American rhythms and hip-hop, as well as a humorous reinterpretation of the Italian 1930s. Recently, some classical songs and spirituals have also been included in the repertoire.

The harmonisations are mostly original, written by Andrea Rizzi. By Andrea Rizzi is the elaboration and text in Italian of 'Brodo di carne"Anders Edenroth's work made famous in the original version 'Chili con carne' by The Real Group.

Since 1998, Blue Penguin have been playing concerts all over Italy and participating in major European singing events.
