It is no coincidence that there are four pieces. The Lokapalas are in fact Guardians of the Cardinal Points (लोकपाल, literally "guardians of the world"), they are the Hindu deities of the cardinal points, and correspond in Buddhism to the Four Heavenly Kings (四天王S, Yes TiānwángP), known in Korean as Sacheonwang (사천왕), in Japanese as Shitennō (四天王?), and in Tibetan as rgyal.chen bzhi.
