Italy's first ever project of an a cappella album of entirely new songsI almost had it is, as usual for the Milanese vocal quintet, a journey through different musical genres (rap, pop, jazz, swing, funky, rock & roll...) which, thanks to refined and committed lyrics, offers us a new picture of today's society.

From difficulties of the new generations in concluding their projects, in I almost had itto Love told in all its facets: the difficulties of relationships in Adagio with motorbike e On Wednesdaya sweet reflection between loneliness and being together in the That extra colourthe almost indescribable love of the separated father for his son in Wednesdayup to Roby which tells the poignant love story of a man of a certain age who is infatuated with a much younger girl, showing how it is sometimes important to let reason prevail over sentiment. Social themes are also touched upon: separationin Wednesdaythe meritocracyin Starwhich tells the story of a dancer/soubrette struggling with an X-rated audition, the phenomenon of the "red light". most popular sport among Italiansin It's footballwith all its contradictions, a theme that is treated with amusing lightness, inspired by the Cetra Quartet and relying on the names of memories, i.e. the footballers we all have in our hearts. Outside the choir At the King's court there are two suitors for the Princess locked in the towera song arranged by Alberto Schirò in a neo-medieval version and which is deliberately inspired by two great artists such as Branduardi e De Andréwhich recounts the vicissitudes of an undecided Princess who must choose between two suitors. The album closes with The ship of dreamsalready presented a few years ago, and the historic Night Blues which the quintet has been performing live since 1994, but which had never been recorded before: the barman goes on stage and sings his blues all night long, because music is life. But it is life if we are all there, if the audience is there to cheer him on. Music will truly be a seven-colour dream, as long as there is an audience that buys Alti & Bassi albums, the only way today to support the talent of so many artists.

  1. Roberto Caprai -

Not being a music critic, I don't feel like giving a technical opinion on the tracks on Alti & Bassi's new album. Mine is an emotional judgement and I have included in my personal playlist those that arouse my emotions or that with their melody cheer me up and make me hum the words I remember.Having said that, here is the podium of the first three songs classified:
    1) Night Blues. I was hoping to hear this track again, which in the past was the 'soundtrack' to closing concerts. I like everything about this song: I like the way it is sung, I like it because it reminds me of a situation I experienced personally. When I was a boy I used to go to the studios of the TV Production Centre in Cologno Monzese and at that time Studio 5 was the studio where one of the Thursday night super-quizzes was recorded. One day, arriving early, alone in this studio, I stood in great Mike's seat and made my own personal presentation with the cameras off with a lot of imaginary audience. Some dreamed of the stage like the barman in Notte Blues and others, like me, dreamed of live TV. Then the satisfactions in the TV field arrived, but even those who have been less fortunate than me should never stop pursuing their dreams and pursuing them even if they don't reach the top. For every Paganini there are thousands of violinists who enjoy making music. Come on people, get busy pursuing your dreams until "the bed is calling you". In the worst case you can say that you have (almost) made it.
Second position for Stella. An issue that has always existed (even for men) but now gets more attention: talent versus sexual availability. A happy ending story of a girl who doesn't bend over (in every sense of the word) for an impresario who seems uninterested in talent. Go Stella!
Paolo Bellodi's voice is the protagonist of the third song on my personal playlist. I like the sound of the track and the romanticism of this song. Not convinced? Then at least buy "The Best of" and be on the safe side.
