Vincenzo Palermo's Sonata for saxophone and piano features soprano and alto saxophone and is in one movement.
Vincenzo Palermo's Sonata for saxophone and piano features soprano and alto saxophone and is in one movement. As in other pieces by the Neapolitan composer, elements of minimalist writing are combined with a skilful and elegant reinterpretation of the classical language, which produces an evident and controlled narrative dimension to the piece. Against the backdrop, we also hear echoes of French music, which are inevitably linked to the sonic imagery of the classical saxophone. From this, the sonata takes on part of the harmonic dimension, so essential yet colourful, which perfectly suits the terse character (which is rare in the contemporary repertoire!) of this piece. The detached part is attached to the score.
