Italian Harmonists

The idea of re-proposing a quintet of harmonised male voices, accompanied by a piano, was born within the musical reality of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan when some colleagues of the Chorus became enthusiastic about the harmonisations and interpretative style of the 'Comedian Harmonists', a Berlin vocal group that had reached high peaks of international success in the 1930s, before the Nazi racial laws interrupted their career (three members of the 'Comedians' were in fact Jews). After throwing themselves headlong into their repertoire, in 2006 the line-up settled down and reunited under the name 'Italian Harmonists': Antonio Murgo (tenor), Luca Di Gioia (tenor), Andrea Semeraro (tenor), Giorgio Tiboni (tenor), Guillermo Bussolini (bass) and Jader Costa (piano). In this splendid album, the Italian Harmonists extend their repertoire by revisiting Italian songs from the years between the 1930s and the 1950s, putting to good use the unquestionable skills as musician and arranger of pianist Jader Costa.
