Detached parts includedOedipus is a name, it is a story, it is a myth with which it is possible to travel the entire path of western culture, from Greek times to the present day. Not only because numerous literary, theatrical and musical works are aligned on that path, in frequent and incessant succession, but also and above all because the problem of human self-knowledge has been measured over the centuries on that classical dramaturgical track. To bring the tale of Oedipus back to the stage today is an act of trust in the durability of his mythical word, in the powerful transmission of his name and his story. The original idea was therefore to create a new way of passing on the Oedipus myth: Ex Oedipo, a tragedy-concert where Mario Totaro's original music and Pietro Conversano's words are integrated to give life to a complex organism, fluid and rigorous at the same time. The musical instruments give life to a tight play, derived from a few continuously varied elements and in close fusion with the three reciting voices. In Pietro Conversano's text, we start, as always, from a point, from a pretext: among the Greek tragedies handed down, only Sophocles' has as its hypothesis the passage from the story of Oedipus that is presented here: Oedipus the King, a masterly drama, with a formidable construction, that revolves around the perfidious game of "reknow thyself". In this new reading of the myth, Oedipus, his mother Jocasta and Tiresias, the blind prophet, meet, during the journey "backwards" in their memories and nightmares, the key witnesses of Oedipus' tragic and unconscious destiny: the preacher, a drunkard, the fortune teller, the Sphinx, the old man of Thebes. Characters who in the classical tradition are barely mentioned or have marginal space, but who, in this sort of dreamlike, hidden journey within the tragedy, rise to the role of protagonists, almost becoming the sacred guardians of Oedipus' true and secret conscience.
