We appreciate your gesture because it is a concrete act against piracy, which heavily damages the Italian publishing system.

IL COPYRIGHT
The "copyright"is a legal institution designed to protect the creator of an original creative work belonging to the category of the literatureto the musicto the science, atfigurative arts, to architectureto the theatre and the cinematography whatever the mode or form of expression.

Behind each work or phonogram published on PreludeAs in any other platform, there is a lot of work: by authors, composers, processors, performers, copyists, graphic designers, record producers, publishers, etc...

Trying to circumvent copyright prevents all these actors from receiving fair compensation for their work.

LO DEVELOPMENT OF A HEALTHY MARKET
But what is worse, it prevents a market from developing and growing.

A very concrete case is the market for digital sheet music. Many music editions, for example, publish by choir, proposing the purchase of a given minimum number of copies. It is taken for granted that a choir should buy a score for each member. Italy seems not to have understood this yet and is by far the most backward country in this respect. If you try to hand a file of photocopied sheet music to an American or German choir director, he will look at you dumbfounded.

I PRODUCTIVE PUBLISHING MECHANISMS
The production mechanism behind each score is decidedly complicated: part from conception of the work, to its encoding written, to the drafting e layout in a music editing programme, to the control and checking that there are no errors, preparing any detached partsto the realisation of the coverand the purchase and generation of a ISMN code and a product barcodeto the input of all data to databaseup to the publicationto the distribution in the market and its promotion through today's marketing techniques that often involve the creation and sharing of expensive multimedia content.

Buying a single copy and photocopying it, or worse, capturing it digitally and running it on the web, generates a vicious circleall those who contributed to the above production do not receive the compensation they expected and in the long run this inurtures creativity and the entrepreneurial spirit producers, composers and publishers.

Let's ask ourselves why in the USA or Germany, for example, choral and contemporary a cappella music has such a large following: new groups are formed every day and have access to a considerable number of potential works to perform.biodiversity"of publishing catalogues. The money flow that is generated allows publishers to market new publications and the circle allows everyone to survive.

SOME NUMBERS
We do not have data in the music field, but according to those presented at the conference of theItalian Publishers Association 22 January 2020, piracy of physical and electronic books, i.e. the illegal downloading of texts in digital format, illegal photocopying, and outright counterfeiting of physical books at unauthorised printers, causes economic damage amounting to a quarter of book sales in our country, loss of revenue to the treasury of EUR 216 million, a loss of 8,800 jobs, also taking into account ancillary industries.

What we can assure you, dear customer, is that the price you paid (or will pay) for the album or sheet music purchased on Preludiomusic, goes entirely to remunerate all the people who helped to publish and distribute it (the author, the interpreter, the publisher, the copyist, the translator, the editor, the graphic designer, the printer, the publishing house employee, the distributor, the promoter, the bookseller, etc.). All people who carry out their work with, passion, honesty e engagement and are literally robbed at every act of piracy.

The price you paid for this album or score serves to maintain a wide-ranging publishing systemin which publishing successes stand alongside the thousands of new works published every year without the same success, but which are equally indispensable for a system of "bibliodiversity"founded on the search and on the pluralism of entries.
