Simone Pionieri

Simone Pionieri studied at the Conservatorio "G. Verdi" in Milan, graduating with top marks under the guidance of Professor Edda Ponti. In 2003 he obtained the Diploma of Merit at the prestigious Accademia Chigiana in Siena. During the academic period he won numerous selections organised by the Milan Conservatory, including participation in the performance of Beethoven's complete sonatas, various performances as part of the Chiostro concerts and his debut with the Milano Classica Orchestra performing Mendelssohn's double concerto. He has been awarded prizes in numerous national and international competitions, winning eight of them (including the Genoa Competition in 1994, the Varenna Competition in 1995, the Salsomaggiore Terme Competition in 1996, the Olgiate Olona Competition in 1997, etc.) and winning many first prizes. Outside of the academic sphere, he has given recitals in renowned venues (Sala Verdi and Sala Puccini of the Milan Conservatory, Circolo Filologico Milanese, Teatro delle Erbe, Palazzina Liberty, Bocconi University, etc.) and for some of the most prestigious Italian concert societies, where he has received unanimous acclaim from the public and critics. Chamber music is of particular importance to his training. As a chamber musician he attended the courses of the pianist E. Piemonti at the Conservatory of Milan as well as those of the Trio di Parma and the Scuola Superiore del Trio di Trieste in Duino and at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena where he obtained a diploma of merit. At the same time he attended seminars with illustrious Maestros such as M. Brunello, E. Dindo, B. Canino, A. Lonquich, F. Rossi, R. Risaliti. In 2001 he had his first radio success in "Grammelot" (November 2001) then renewed with the participation in "Fahre Spettacolo" (April 2003) on the third RAI network (radio 3). His activity as a chamber pianist brought him to perform in the most important Italian institutions such as the Amici del Loggione of the Teatro alla Scala, the Società dei Concerti (Milan), the Gioventù Musicale etc. but also abroad at the Guildhall School in London and the Austrian Schloss Albeck. In December 2003 he made his debut with the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Conservatory of Milan conducted by Maestro R. Rizzi Brignoli performing Ghedini's Albatro concerto for trio and orchestra. He recorded the sonata op. 38 by J. Brahms for the Stradivarius label and for the "Classica Viva" record label the CD "Nel cuore di Chopin", containing a collection of some of Chopin's most famous compositions. He was awarded first prize in a duo at the 2003 Brescian Vocal Chamber Music Competition dedicated to F. P. Tosti, as well as a special prize from the jury for the best pianist in the competition. He has been collaborating pianist at the prestigious Ballet School of the Accademia Teatro alla Scala in Milan and for many years official collaborating pianist at the Milan Conservatory. He performed with the Conservatory's Philharmonic Orchestra, in the Sala Verdi, in F. Mendellsohn's Double Concerto for Violin and Piano, under the prestigious direction of Gustav Kuhn. He played, with great personal success, the famous "Rhapsody in Blue" by George Gershwin in the Concert for the Millennium of the Basilica of Galliano held in Cantù in July 2007. He held in the historical theatre of Stara Zagora (Bulgaria) the opening concert of the season dedicated to the 4th of July celebration in the presence of the American Ambassador presenting himself as soloist, as composer, in duo with the flutist Aiva Elsina and as soloist with orchestra accompanied by the Orchestra of the National Theatre of Stara Zagora. Lately, his interests also range in the air of jazz and improvisation. In these capacities he has given numerous concerts in important halls in Italy and abroad, presenting some of his piano compositions exclusively. He is the artistic director of the "Piccola Stagione Musicale" in Meda.
