Coro Polifonico “S. Cecilia” di Inzago

The S. Cecilia polyphonic choir of Inzago, founded in 1907 by parish priest Don Mosè Villa under the name Schola cantorum, was born with the aim of accompanying and enhancing the various liturgical solemnities of the parish. One of the first directors was Maestro Giovanni Battista Magni from Inzaghese, who remained at the helm for no less than 45 years. It was during the 1970s, with the arrival of Maestro Gerardo Bizzarro from the Milan Conservatory, that the choir broadened its repertoire to include the most representative authors of Renaissance polyphony. Hence the current name of the choir, which alongside its primary liturgical service has held and continues to hold concerts both in polyphonic formation and with orchestral accompaniment. With the current director Federica Mapelli, the choir has ventured into the study of some of the most representative compositions of the Baroque and Classical period and boasts collaboration with the Cappella Palatina of Cremona with which it participated in the cultural events organised for the Jubilee 2000 with the performance of the oratorio David pugna et victoria by A. Scarlatti. He often collaborates with the chamber orchestra 'Guido d'Arezzo' of Melzo, with whom he recently performed the Kyrie and Gloria from J.S.Bach's Mass in B minor. In November 2005, he collaborated with the Insubria Orchestra of Lugano, conducted by Maestro Marc Andreae, performing the choral part of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. For the 250th anniversary of W.A.Mozart's birth, in October 2006 he performed La Messa da Requiem, the last unfinished work of the great Salzburg composer.
